MARTA police and the Georgia State Patrol are investigating after a man was run over and killed by a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus in a busy intersection in Brookhaven, Georgia.

Officials believe the victim ran to the bus stop early Thursday morning, banging on the MARTA bus while it was moving, but then somehow got caught in the rear tire.

"He came to the rear of the last set of wheels in that area and started to hit the bus, trying to get it to stop. And that's when he got caught into and under the bus," GSP Sgt. Stacey Collins told WSB.

The driver pulled over. There were at least 10 people on the bus.

“Thought they heard something, so he stopped,” Collins said.

MARTA and the Georgia State Patrol concluded that the pedestrian was at fault.

“It appears alcohol may have played a role in the pedestrian, but that is still under investigation at this time,” Collins said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that man has not been identified. The GSP said the diver is not expected to face charges.
