College Park Police Chief F. Williford told WSB's Tyisha Fernandes that Raeshaun Antonie Jones, who was a Delta employee himself, shot and killed 30-year-old Alexis Reed in the employee parking lot in College Park, Georgia. Reed was a ramp worker and was leaving her shift when she was shot around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said Jones sat in the lot and waited for Reed to get off work. Investigators said she tried to run from him, but he shot her three times. She died at the hospital.
After killing Reed, police say Jones shot and killed Tyneshia Shelby, 33, at a hotel in Stockbridge.
Williford said Jones was later spotted in at a gas station in Clayton County. He was in the passenger seat and a woman was driving. When police tried to pull the car over, Jones killed himself.
"We spotted him inside a vehicle," Ricks said. "A traffic stop was conducted to try and make contact with him and that’s when he produced a firearm and took his own life."
Police said in a news conference Wednesday that the two women did not know each other, but both knew Jones. Police said the shootings were not random — but they also were not related to a love triangle.
“The connection is Mr. Jones himself,” Clayton County police Capt. David Ricks said. “There is no connection between Reed and Ms. Shelby.”
Police are not calling this a love triangle. They say Delta employee Raeshaun Jones (on left) killed his coworker Alexis Reed (in pink) in Delta’s employee parking lot & hours later killed Tyneshia Shelby at a hotel. Then he killed himself. Fernandes learned that Jones was a third-generation Delta worker and that one of his parents and a grandparent worked for the company.
Fernandes spoke to Reed's mother, who was shocked to hear that Jones killed another woman, too. She was too upset to talk on camera, but sent Fernandes a statement:
“Thank you Delta employees who helped the College Park PD. I thank the police for the sleepless nights they had until they got Raeshaun Jones. Now my baby can Rest In Peace & Glory!!! Thank you Jesus.”
She said funeral services will be held in California, where Reed is from.
Fernandes spoke to Delta officials, who said employees are screened for guns once they get onto a shuttle bus that takes them to the airport. Although they prohibit workers from having guns in the parking lot, they don’t screen them there.
Delta released the following statement Monday about the death of Alexis Reed. We have reached out to them for an updated statement regarding the new information.
"The Delta family is grieving the loss of one of our own this morning. Late last night, an Atlanta colleague passed away after a shooting at the Camp Creek employee parking lot. We share our deepest condolences with both family and friends. Delta is currently conducting an investigation, in partnership with law enforcement.”
Clayton County police, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Delta Corporate Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and College Park police are all working together on this joint investigation.
