Cohen filed suit in a New York state court in Manhattan, Reuters reported Thursday.
"The Trump Organization agreed to indemnify Mr. Cohen and to pay attorneys' fees and costs incurred by Mr. Cohen in connection with various matters arising from Mr. Cohen's work with and on behalf of the Organization," the complaint said, according to Bloomberg News. "These matters included multiple congressional hearings, Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation, and others."
Cohen said the Trump Organization had failed to pay for at least $1.9 million in legal fees and associated costs, Bloomberg News reported.
Cohen once famously claimed he’d take a bullet for Trump, but he broke with the president in 2017 after agreeing to cooperate with federal investigators probing allegations of Russian election meddling and its possible ties to Trump and his campaign officials.
Cohen is set to surrender to federal authorities May 6 to begin a three-year prison sentence after he admitted last year to lying in congressional testimony, committing tax evasion and arranging illicit payments to silence women who posed a risk to Trump's presidential campaign.
