Mike Winter, a VIP host for area clubs, told WEEI that he was coming out of a nightclub a few hours after the game when he saw two men in hoodies with about 10 trays of food in a shopping cart.
As Winter got closer he recognized one of the men. It was Mookie Betts.
"I didn’t know who they were at first. They had hoodies on," said Winter. "I walked up and I said, ‘Hello,’ because we have a mutual friend and then all the people from the club came out and he just walked away. No pictures. No nothing."
Former Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni shared a photo from the night, praising Betts for his undercover act of kindness.
Little birdie told me an amazing story. This was the scene last night around 1am out in front of the Boston Library. Trays and trays of food fed the homeless. "Nowadays people do stuff because they want recognition. He didn’t even want recognition," Winter told WEEI. "He wasn’t being followed by cameras like people do on Instagram. This is just him being himself."
