Mother, daughter accused of killing grandmother, cashing checks, police say

A mother and daughter in Arizona have been arrested, accused of killing a 77-year-old woman and cashing her checks for two years.

Police were contacted by a concerned person who said they hadn't seen Sandra Aven for a long time, KNXV reported.

When police contacted Briar Aven, 24, she said her grandmother was out of town.

Briar Aven lives next door to her grandmother's home, with her mother and Sandra Aven's daughter, Tara Aven, 46, according to KNXV.

Police questioned mother and daughter, who they said gave inconsistent information.

Police then went to Sandra Aven’s home and found a body.

They said the mother and daughter then confessed to killing the elder Aven. They also admitted to cashing the victim's monthly checks, KNXV reported.

Briar Aven and Tara Aven were arrested and face first-degree murder, fraud and tampering with evidence charges.
