NASCAR teams come together at funeral for cancer victim, 5

The scene was one that Jake Leatherman could only possibly have imagined.

The 5-year-old NASCAR fan, who always said Richard Petty was "the king," died Nov. 1.

More than 100 members of various NASCAR teams came together at his funeral Wednesday to remember and honor the 5-year-old fan and cancer victim.

"It was one of the most real moments, one of the proudest moments I have been a part of in this NASCAR community," Joey Logano told NASCAR. "We compete against (each other) every week out here at the race track and fight the crap out of each other every week. To come together as one team and be NASCAR as a whole for a child who looked at us as superheroes -- that is how his family members described what he thought of NASCAR."

 Leatherman was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, a rare childhood cancer, when he was 3.
