Ohio prep wrestler with Down syndrome wins first match

High school wrestling season has just begun, but already a match in Ohio can be considered a memorable moment.

National Trail freshman Brooks Henning pinned senior Tyler Stevens of Wayne on Nov. 25 at the Northmont Wrestling Premier.

The outcome caused the crowd to go crazy because Henning, who had never wrestled before, has Down syndrome.
Despite losing the match, Stevens had a winning attitude.
“I remembered how it felt to lose my first match, and I didn’t want him to feel like that.”

Bravo, Tyler.
