A pigeon that can't fly and a dog that can't walk posed for some positively adorable photos, a New York animal shelter shared on social media.

Herman, a pigeon who is unable to fly likely because of a brain injury or the side effects of West Nile virus, arrived at The Mia Foundation, a shelter for animals with special needs, about a year ago.

Lundy, an 8-week-old Chihuahua, was brought to the shelter six weeks ago from North Carolina.

"Thursday night, I took Herman out of his playpen to give him some time out and I put him in a dog bed and then I had to tend to Lundy so I put Lundy in with him," shelter owner Sue Rogers told WHEC. "They just looked really cute together so I took some pictures and posted them to Facebook and the next morning it was crazy."

In addition to the thousands of likes, comments and shares, the post lead to more than $6,000 in donations to the shelter.

"Unbelievable that a simple, cute picture would go this crazy," Rogers told WHEC. "I think the world needs good stories and when you have two species that basically fall in love, it can only touch hearts."
