Monroe police said in a statement that officers responded Wednesday to a home after a 61-year-old man's family reported not being able to get in touch with him. The man lived at the home with his girlfriend, MLive reported.
Officers weren’t able to get in contact with the man or enter the house, so they called the property manager. When officers approached the house a second time, the man’s girlfriend opened the door.
Police said they quickly determined a body was inside the home. The woman also confirmed the man had died.
“Based on the conditions in the home, statements from the girlfriend, it appears that resident had passed away several weeks earlier and she continued living there,” police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation, and was later interviewed by police. Officers arrested the woman on a charge of concealing the death of another.
Police haven't released the name of either the dead man or the woman.
