The joke was criticized and Davidson apologized on the show the next week. The two patched things up and Crenshaw made an appearance on the same segment, getting in a few jokes about Davidson.
Crenshaw told KPRC he spoke to Davidson Sunday.

“I talked to him personally,” Crenshaw said. “We don’t go back very far. We’re not good friends, but I think he appreciated hearing from me. I told him everyone had a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason. It’s your job to find that purpose. And you should live that way.”
The post that caused concern was made Saturday. In a screenshot of text in the iPhone notes app, Davidson wrote, “I really don’t want to be on this Earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last. All I’ve ever tried to do was help people.”

The actor then deleted his account completely, prompting the New York Police Department to conduct a welfare check on Davidson. It was determined that he was safe. He briefly appeared on "SNL" that day to introduce musical guests Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus.

His ex-fiancee, Ariana Grande, said in a since-deleted tweet that she was in the building where the sketch show is filmed, but Davidson reportedly turned her away.
“Know that you have value ... especially a guy like that,” Crenshaw said. “Sometimes he makes people laugh. Sometimes makes people mad. But he makes people laugh a lot. It was a good conversation.”
