Rep.-elect Dan Crenshaw reached out to Pete Davidson after concerning Instagram post

“Saturday Night Live” comedian Pete Davidson has been surrounded by support after  he made a concerning Instagram post over the weekend. Dan Crenshaw, representative-elect for Texas’s 2nd Congressional District, is among them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crenshaw spoke to KPRC in Houston Monday and said he called Davidson and spoke with him. In November, Davidson appeared on "SNL's" "Weekend Update" segment and mocked the former Navy SEAL, who lost an eye in an improvised explosive device blast in Afghanistan.

The joke was criticized and Davidson apologized on the show the next week. The two patched things up and Crenshaw made an appearance on the same segment, getting in a few jokes about Davidson.

Crenshaw told KPRC he spoke to Davidson Sunday.

“I talked to him personally,” Crenshaw said. “We don’t go back very far. We’re not good friends, but I think he appreciated hearing from me. I told him everyone had a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason. It’s your job to find that purpose. And you should live that way.”

The post that caused concern was made Saturday. In a screenshot of text in the iPhone notes app, Davidson wrote, “I really don’t want to be on this Earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last. All I’ve ever tried to do was help people.”

The actor then deleted his account completely, prompting the New York Police Department to conduct a welfare check on Davidson. It was determined that he was safe. He briefly appeared on "SNL" that day to introduce musical guests Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus.

His ex-fiancee, Ariana Grande, said in a since-deleted tweet that she was in the building where the sketch show is filmed, but Davidson reportedly turned her away.

“Know that you have value ... especially a guy like that,” Crenshaw said. “Sometimes he makes people laugh. Sometimes makes people mad. But he makes people laugh a lot. It was a good conversation.”
