Ruiz Foods recalls 246,000 pounds of breakfast wraps after 'small rocks' found in packages

A Texas food company recalled more than 240,000 pounds of frozen breakfast wrap products that may be contaminated with small rocks, according to a news release Friday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Ruiz Foods Products Inc., based out of Denison, Texas, is recalling 246,514 pounds of frozen, not-ready-to-eat breakfast foods containing bacon, according to the FSIS.

The frozen egg, potato, bacon and cheese wraps were produced Jan. 17, 2019, and Jan. 18, 2019, according to FSIS.

The following product is subject to recall, according to the FSIS:

8-Pack family size film packages containing "EL MONTEREY EGG, POTATO, BACON & CHEESE SAUCE BREAKFAST WRAPS" with "Best if Used By" dates of 01/17/2020 and 01/18/2020 and lot codes 19017 and 19018.

The products subject to recall contain the establishment number “EST. 17523A” on the back of the package. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

According to the FSIS release, the problem was discovered Friday. Officials with Ruiz Foods advised the FSIS that there had been three complaints about foreign materials in the wrap products

The FSIS recommends that any consumers owning packages of this product should throw them away.
