Students at the school in Ann Arbor told the News they've seen Sasha Obama, 18, on campus and during student orientation.

"I was walking by pushing a vacuum and she walked out right in front of me," film student Zach Lassen told the News. "I said, 'Excuse me.' It was a crowded hallway with her and some Secret Service dudes."

University of Michigan spokesman Rick Fitzgerald declined Thursday to confirm Sasha Obama was an incoming student at the college.

"We do not have any information to share," Fitzgerald told CBS News. "We're excited about starting another academic year. We welcome all students to campus and wish them all much success in their time at U-M."

Speculation swirled for months that Sasha Obama might attend the university following her high school graduation earlier this year. The Detroit Free Press reported a post in December on a private Instagram account believed to be Obama's included the University of Michigan as her college of choice. The post included an image of Obama with two friends, according to the Free Press.

"So proud to say I'm going to college with my sisters!!" the newspaper reported the photo caption said.

Sasha Obama's college choice makes her the first of her family to attend a Big Ten public university over an Ivy League school, according to WDIV. Her older sister, Malia Obama, is set to start her third year at Harvard University in Massachusetts this fall. Barack Obama earned his undergraduate degree from New York's Columbia University while Michelle Obama got her undergraduate degree from New Jersey's Princeton University.
