A Tennessee boy proved to be a real lifesaver for his young cousin.

Nine-year-old Timothy Prather used the Heimlich maneuver on his 3-year-old cousin, who was choking on a Life Savers candy, the Jackson Sun reported.

Prather and his cousin, Connor Harmon, were enjoying the Cody Nance Bull Riding Invitational in Jackson on Jan. 25, with their grandparents when the younger boy began choking, the newspaper reported.

"He was just crying and stomping his feet and holding his throat," Timothy told the Sun. "Our mammaw had him upside down and our pappaw was patting his back, that's how I knew something was wrong."

Timothy took over quickly, using the techniques of the Heimlich maneuver he learned from a poster hanging from the cafeteria wall at Ramer Elementary School, WBBJ reported.

"I took him, and I started pushing his stomach, like this," Timothy told the Sun.

"(He was) squishing my belly," Connor told WBBJ.

After a few moments, Timothy was able to dislodge the candy from his cousin’s throat.

The poster was put up in the lunchroom and classrooms 14 years ago by Ramer kindergarten teacher Brandi Wardlow, according to the Sun.

“We never know when they’re watching, what they’re picking up on,” Wardlow told the newspaper. “To think this little poster here saved his cousin’s life, its amazing.”

Timothy’s relatives agreed.

"I would've never thought that he would do something like that at 9 years old or know how to do something like that, just being 9 years old," Connor's father, Stephen Harmon, told WBBJ. "To do something like that, it would've never crossed my mind, and for him to do that, I mean it's awesome. I can't believe it,"

“I knew he was smart and knew that he could do it. I just didn’t think that it would come to a situation where he had to do it, but that was for him to be as shy as he, is he knew just what needed to be done to help the situation,” Timothy’s mother, Krystina Prather, told the television station.
