A Tennessee man is accused of looting in Nashville during the wake of last week’s destructive tornado while his two young children were riding in the back seat of the vehicle in which he was a passenger, authorities said.

Joshua Williams Davis, 34, was charged with disorderly conduct, child endangerment, criminal impersonation, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, controlled substance possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, WZTV reported.

According to the Nashville Metro Police Department, Davis was observed driving in east Nashville around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, in an area that is still without electricity after an EF-3 tornado ripped through the region.

Police said Davis was a passenger in a black Chevrolet pickup truck that was driving "suspiciously," stopping at several locations. When confronted by police, Davis and the driver of the truck admitted they were not from that neighborhood but were "collecting items," WZTV reported.

“These actions served no legal purpose and were in dangerous proximity to a natural disaster area, creating a hazardous condition for those with a legitimate reason to be there,” Metro police said in a statement.

According to police, Davis and the driver provided fake Social Security numbers, and officers found 2.6 grams of clear crystal meth and marijuana, WZTV reported.

Police said Davis’ two young children were in the back seat of the truck, putting them in “unreasonable danger,” because they were close to the meth, the television station reported.

Davis was being held in the Nashville Metro Jail on a $19,500 bond.
