A Houston man died after trying to recover his stolen vehicle.

A Texas man was killed Sunday night while trying to recover his pickup truck, which was stolen from a Houston apartment complex, authorities said.

According to Houston police, around 9 p.m. Sunday the victim and his adult son were pursuing three people who stole the vehicle, KHOU reported.

At some point, the man and his son got the suspect to stop. However, when the victim grabbed the door, the driver took off, KTRK reported.

The thieves drove through historic Evergreen Cemetery and struck several trees and headstones, causing the victim to fall, KHOU reported.

The driver of the pickup drove away but crashed near the scene, police said. The men then ran from the truck, KTRK reported.

The victim died at the scene. Houston police Lt. Parris Ponton said the driver of the stolen truck could face a murder charge, along with charges of failure to stop and render aid, KHOU reported.
