Toddler found alive, alone in crib days after grandmother's death

A Tennessee toddler reportedly survived alone in her crib for days after the death of her grandmother.

According to WATE, Annette Ineichen of Maryville was watching her 15-month-old granddaughter, Brier, because her daughter, Tracy Ineichen, is in jail. Tracy Ineichen asked her boyfriend, Anthony Waldo, to check on the pair Saturday because she hadn't heard from her mother since Nov. 7, WATE reports. Police said Waldo entered the home, where he found the toddler crying in her crib.

"When I grabbed her, she just couldn't hold her head up," Waldo told WVLT. "She was just hugging on me and collapsed on me."

WVLT reports that Annette Ineichen, who was found dead on the bathroom floor, "likely died of a medical issue," according to police. Brier, who reportedly had swollen lips and seemed malnourished, was treated for dehydration at a nearby hospital. The Department of Children's Services is now deciding where to place Brier.

GoFundMe page has been started for the girl.
