The only American killed in the Paris attacks is being honored by her university.

Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, was studying abroad in France for a semester. She was with fellow students at a French bistro on Friday night when she was fatally shot.

Gonzalez was a student at California State University Long BeachAccording to CBS News, Gonzalez was attending a program at Strate College of Design. She would have been returning home next month.

Monday morning, her university website's homepage was tribute to her life.

On Sunday, hundreds gathered to remember her at a vigil hosted by the university.

“She's my little firecracker, she'll always be here. She'll always be in my heart, and I think she's going to be in everyone else's heart too,” said Gonzalez’ boyfriend, Tim Mraz.

Gonzalez was described by faculty as "buoyant," "joyous" and "energetic."

California State University says that the other 16 students studying in France are safe.
