Chandler, Arizona police have just released the video of a man and woman crashing a stolen car into a store, then stealing almost two dozen handguns.
It happened Monday, Dec. 3 at around 11 p.m., at the Shopper’s Supply store. Police say 32-year-old Miguel Gomez and 26-year-old Alicia Gonzalez drove a stolen red truck through the front entrance of the gun shop.
The video released Wednesday by police is dramatic and shows the vehicle plowing through a front entrance of the building.
After crashing into the store, police say the pair continued driving to the firearms department.
Police tell KPHO that once there, Gomez and Gonzalez shattered the glass on the display cases and removed 21 handguns. The pair then got back in the truck and tried to back out of the store.
After repeated attempts, the two ran from the store on foot. Police say they were picked up a short time later by a woman who was driving a maroon Chevrolet pickup.
Officers attempted a traffic stop on the maroon pickup, but police say the driver refused to yield and continued westbound at a high rate of speed. A brief pursuit followed.
The chase ended on the Gila River Indian Community. Gomez and Gonzalez were taken into custody. The third woman was released.
Police say both Gomez and Gonzalez have numerous arrest warrants out of Chandler and other neighboring jurisdictions. Investigators believe all were under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the burglary and pursuit.
According to court paperwork, Gomez told police "he was too drink to remember what happened and did not remember anything that happened. He would not admit to any involvement in the burglary."
All of the stolen guns have been recovered.
