Wish granted: WWII vet's wish for 100 cards for 100th birthday surpassed

James South had put his request on Facebook, hoping that someone would heed the call.

And complete strangers have blown the 100 card request out of the water.

South has received more than 60,000 cards from all over the world, including as far away as Australia and India, KXAS reported.

He also received more than 500 comments and 3,800 shares on the three-week-old post, according to KXAS.

South retired at 65 and keeps himself busy playing golf, woodworking, working in his garden and attending church, CNN reported.

He had planned on hanging the 100 cards on the wall of his room, CNN reported, but there's no word on what he is going to do with the extra 5,900 well wishes.

South turned 100 on Oct. 7.
