5-year-old sidelined by surgery misses pre-K graduation, so teacher brings ceremony to him

Five-year-old Lucas St. Onge was heartbroken that he wouldn’t be able to attend the graduation ceremony he spent weeks rehearsing for, so his school brought the ceremony to him.

Lucas has been battling short bowel syndrome and severe combined immune deficiency syndrome. He recently got the multivisceral organ transplant he needed at Boston Children’s Hospital. But to get the surgery, he had to miss preschool graduation.

So Lucas’ teacher, 'Miss Laurie,' Laurie Archambault, decided to take the ceremony to Lucas.

"He is going to remember that surprise from his teachers forever!" mother Heather St. Onge told People. "His initial reaction was like 'Oh my gosh! They really came to see me? This is awesome!'"
