Authorities said Ashford was a 17-year-old Dunbar High School student when he robbed a Byers Road Shell station in the mid-afternoon on Feb. 5, 2018 and sought to flee by trying to carjack vehicles near Interstate 75.

Off-duty Miami Twp. Officer James Swearingen wounded the teen in the arm after officials said Ashford failed to comply with his orders to drop a gun, records show.
The case against Ashford, who has no criminal history, was transferred to adult court and he was indicted on 10 counts. A not guilty plea had earlier been entered on his behalf.
Ashford had faced a Jan. 28 trial date, court records show. He is being held in juvenile detention after a $500,000 bond was set.
