A new sports bar is scheduled to open as early as September in Washington Twp.
A franchise-owned Submarine House bar-and-grill concept is in the works at 503 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in the Normandy Square Shopping Center, according to Jeremy McDaniel of Dayton, the franchisee. The space previously housed a Blockbuster Video but has been vacant for several years.
The new 4,000-square-foot pub will seat 130 to 160 and will employ about 40. The construction timetable is not set, but, “We hope to get open sometime in September,” McDaniel said.
An existing, smaller Submarine House sub shop a few blocks west at 1000 Miamisburg-Centerville Road — which seats a couple dozen, employs 15, and does not have a liquor license — will close down when the new bar-and-grill opens five blocks away, Submarine House co-owner Brody Danner told us.
Another new Submarine House bar and grill restaurant that we first told you about back in January is poised to open perhaps by the end of August at 5376 Taylorsville Road near Ohio 202 in Huber Heights, Danner said.

McDaniel worked at the original Submarine House on Brown Street when he attended the University of Dayton and told this news outlet that he always wanted to own and operate his own pub. He worked for Sherwin-Williams for 17 years before deciding this year to pursue his passion. He spoke to Danner and other Submarine House officials, “did my due diligence,” and decided to take the plunge, McDaniel said.
Founded in 1973 with that UD-area sub shop, Submarine House opened its first bar-and-grill concept in 2006, and now operates 8 locations, four of them bar-and-grills. Seven of the restaurants are in the Dayton area, and one bar-and-grill is in Hilliard in suburban Columbus.
