A southwest Florida university football player is accused of holding a gun to a teammate’s head during a Halloween party, the Naples Daily News reported.
Cory Del Prado, 18, was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Del Prado, a freshman quarterback from Miami who attends Ave Maria University, arrived at an off-campus party an apartment Saturday and was denied entry, the Daily News reported, citing an arrest report by the Sheriff’s Office.
According to the arrest report, Del Prado became upset and pushed Tibbetts. He then pulled a black, semi-automatic firearm from his waistband and held it at the right side of Tibbetts’ head, the Daily News reported.
According to the arrest report, Del Prado told Tibbetts that “I will ruin your life.”
Tibbetts was pulled back into the apartment and Del Prado fled the scene, according to the Daily News.
Del Prado denied he threatened Tibbetts, telling investigators that he was dressed as a gangster for the Halloween party and was holding a black BB gun in his hand as part of the costume, the newspaper reported. He also told authorities he was intoxicated and did not recall everything that he did, the Daily News reported.
Deputies found a black .177-caliber Powerline pellet gun in the trunk of Del Prado’s vehicle, according to the report. On the side of the pellet gun was a warning that said, “Not a toy. Misuse or careless use may cause serious injury or death.”
Del Prado was released from the Collier County Jail on Tuesday after posting a $10,000 bond.
Del Prado’s biography was removed from the Ave Maria University football media guide.
