A man shot in the butt told police this morning it did not happen at a Middletown restaurant as he alleged Thursday night.
Douglas Mayer, 54, of Burton Road told police he was shot Thursday night in the parking lot of Fricker’s by two men after they demanded money. However, Middletown police Lt. Scott Reeve said Mayer confessed this morning that was not where he was shot. He has not yet told police the location, he said.
“I don’t think we are getting the truth out of him yet,” Reeve said.
Police responded to Atrium Medical Center at 10:45 p.m. after Mayer arrived in the emergency room with the gunshot wound. He initially told police he had been approached by two black men in their 20s asking for a cigarette and then demanding money.
After Mayer turned to walk away, he claimed to have heard a “pop” and felt a burning sensation in his left buttocks. He said he didn’t initially realize he had been shot and he drove himself to the hospital.
The bullet entered Mayer’s left buttocks and traveled to his right thigh. Police said he had since been released from the hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Tom McIntosh at (513) 425-7785.
