Lack of a dedicated right turn lane contributes significantly to the daily afternoon rush hour backups that occur on South Gilmore, which frequently extend all the way to Mack Road, a distance of over half a mile, according to the group.
Situated at the Butler/Hamilton County line, the I-275 interchange serves the cities of Fairfield and Forest Park. Significant upgrades completed five years ago improved traffic flow through the interchange but did not address the southbound drop lane on South Gilmore Road, according to Butler County Transportation Improvement District.
The proposed improvements are scheduled for 2021. The city of Fairfield was previously granted construction funds and will award the construction contract.
The project is a collaborative effort among the city of Fairfield, the Butler County Transportation Improvement District, and the Hamilton County Transportation Improvement District.
