Ribbon-cutting celebrates Wright-Patt’s refurbished Rockers Lounge

Numerous personnel gathered to celebrate the grand re-opening of Rockers Lounge at the Wright-Patterson Club Feb. 8 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Free food, prizes and the chance to win a $1500 Fast Cash jackpot were available to all club members.

The following renovations were made to the lounge:

• Carpet, furniture, wall and ceiling updates;

• New wall screens were installed around the room with the capability to display the same or different channels. They can also be used to project videos or briefing presentations simultaneously. The screens can be controlled by a remote system affixed to the wall in a single location.

• Sound system embedded into the ceilings and wireless microphones. Sound system features include music stopping (without the need to turn the sound down) when someone starts speaking into the microphones, and then automatically coming back on afterward. Another feature enables the capability to connect a smart device (such as an iPad) to stream music and videos.

• Pool table with Air Force logo;

• Renovated bridal suite for wedding events (former women’s restroom);

• In the works is an updated draft beer system.

Included in the wall décor are the rank insignias of all enlisted Airmen. The lounge was originally a place designated for enlisted personnel but is now open to all ranks.

The term “rocker” means a “vice arc,” according to Military.com. The enlisted ranks consist of either a stripe(s), stripes on top of rockers, or chevrons and stripes on top of rockers. For example, the rank of chief master sergeant is made up of three chevrons on top, three stripes in the middle, and two rockers on the bottom.

To start, the lounge will be open on Fridays with future plans to host Bar Bingo and Texas Hold ‘Em, said Bruce Hiott, club manager.

Food can be ordered from the Wings Grille menu. A menu with lighter meal options will be available soon. Rockers Lounge is available to reserve for meetings and events.
