Butler County village removes medical marijuana ban

The village of Seven Mile recently voted to lift its temporary ban on medical marijuana and put in place rules to regulate a marijuana dispensary that has been approved for the tiny hamlet.

The village’s attorney Kyle Rapier said the council enacted a nine-month moratorium in June after it learned 127 OH, LLC was state-approved to locate a facility there.

“We didn’t want a dispensary coming in and beginning to operate without us adopting our rules and regulations,” Rapier told the Journal-News. “That was the whole point.”

In place now are regulations for hours of operation and procedures, such as requiring businesses to apply for a license, but the ban remains on marijuana processing and cultivation operations.

The state approved two provisional medical marijuana dispensary licenses for Butler County in June, one in Seven Mile and the other in Monroe.

Seven Mile Mayor Vivian Gorsuch previously told the Journal-News that the new business would be good for the village, which is home to 780 residents.
