Icy roads likely a factor in crash that kills Ludlow Falls man

Freezing rain and icy roads are believed to be a factor in a crash that killed a Ludlow Falls man in Miami County on New Year’s Day morning.

Noah Trader, 21, was driving a pickup truck on South Rangeline Road near state Route 55 in Union Twp. when he lost control, Sheriff Dave Duchak said.

The truck hit a guardrail, ejecting Trader from the pickup. The truck continued down the guardrail and then went down an embankment.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded and is investigating the crash.

Trader was the truck’s only occupant.

Freezing ran was reported throughout the Miami Valley region Friday morning as temperatures hovered around freezing. Roads were slick and icy, Duchak said.

The weather also is believed to be a factor in a second crash in Miami County, after which a Troy man died.

Less than an hour after deputies responded to South Rangeline Road, they were called to the 6000 block of Kessler-Frederick Road.

The vehicle crashed into two utility poles, causing one to snap and bring down power lines. The man got out of vehicle, but is believed to have been electrocuted by a live line, Duchak said.

The crashes were a tragic way to start 2021, the sheriff said. His office extending their sympathy to both victims’ families.
