Niraj Antani

Antani and Dickerson are winners in race for Ohio 42nd statehouse seat

State Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg and Democrat Zach Dickerson won their primary races in the Ohio 42nd House district, according to final, unofficial results on the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.

Antani received 63 percent of the vote, garnering 6,780 votes. Miamisburg Vice Mayor Sarah M. Clark got 3,007 votes,  or 28 percent, and Marcus Rech of Miamisburg received 968 votes, or 9 percent.

“I’m very happy to have won with a strong majority despite a three-person race,” Antani said. “My opponents worked very hard and tried to make it a competitive election. My message and record resonated with voters. I think they’ve taken a look at what I’ve done over the last three and a half years and delivered results for the district using my conservative principles and I look forward to making them proud in the general election.”

Dickerson received 2,482 votes, nearly 57 percent of the total, and Autumn J. Kern of Miamisburg had 1,911 votes, or nearly 43 percent of the vote.

“I appreciate that my message about putting civility and bipartisanship back into politics is one that resonated with people,” said Dickerson of Miamisburg. “People like me that are moderate (look) at what’s happening in politics, with people fighting and the obstruction, the partisanship and we don’t feel like we have a voice.”

Dickerson said he is a moderate who does not believe “any party has a monopoly on good ideas.” Antani needs to be replaced because of his “extreme” views, including advocating that 18-year-olds be allowed to bring long guns into high school, Dickerson said.

Dickerson, a political newcomer, raised more money than anyone in the race during the pre-primary reporting period, taking in $20,861. Antani raised $18,018, Clark collected $10,100 and Rech raised $600. Kern did not file a campaign finance report.
