Cincinnati Shooting: Woman shot 12 times is released from the hospital

UPDATE @ 5:10 p.m. (Sept. 11):

Both survivors of the Cincinnati shooting last week are now out of the hospital.

Whitney Austin of Louisville, Kentucky, was discharged today from University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Austin was shot 12 times in the shooting rampage Thursday at the Fifth Third Center at Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati that killed three other victims. Austin, a Fifth Third Bank VP based in Louisville, was shot in the revolving door while she was on her way to a meeting.

The other survivor, Brian Sarver, was released Monday from UC Medical Center.

The lone gunman was shot and killed by police.

FIRST REPORT

One of two survivors of the Cincinnati shooting last week has been released from the hospital.

One victim was discharged from University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and a second patient remains in fair condition, a UC Health spokeswoman said today.

The victim released is believed to be Brian Sarver, who works for CBRE, a commercial real estate company with offices in Dayton and Cincinnati. He was shot Thursday at the Fifth Third Center on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati.

CBRE released a statement Friday about Sarver, saying that he had emergency surgery and was recovering.

CBRE also extended sympathy to the family of Rick Newcomer, who worked for a CBRE contractor. Newcomer, 64, was one of three victims who were killed. The construction superintendent from Gilbane Building Co. and was at Fifth Third overseeing a project on the third floor.

Other victims were Pruthvi Raj Kanepi, 25, a consultant for Fifth Third Bank, and Luis Felipe Calderon, 48, a contract manager for Fifth Third.

Another bank employee, 37-year-old Whitney Austin, based in Louisville, Kentucky, was the second survivor. On her way to a meeting, she suffered 12 gunshots as she made her way through the revolving doors into the Fifth Third Center.

The lone gunman, Omar Enrique Santa-Perez, 29, was shot and killed by Cincinnati police officers who fired through a glass window. He never worked at the building or for the bank.
