Eight Ohio prisons under quarantine due to coronavirus

Eight Ohio prisons are currently under full quarantine, including the Dayton women’s prison where one guard recently tested positive for coronavirus, according to an April 9 report from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

These prisons include:

  • Correctional Reception Center in Orient
  • Pickaway Correctional Institution, also in Orient
  • Dayton Correctional Institution in Dayton
  • Franklin Medical Center in Columbus
  • Madison Correctional Institution in London
  • Marion Correctional Institution in Marion
  • North Central Correctional Complex, also in Marion
  • Toledo Correctional Institution in Toledo

Three other prisons had inmates in quarantine or in isolation.

Of the prisons under quarantine, the Dayton institution reported one staff member tested positive for the virus so far.

The report explained that prisons can use quarantine procedures when staff or inmates test positive for the coronavirus, separating populations by unit along with other precautionary measure like taking prisoners’ temperature daily.

In total, the report said 108 people have been tested for COVID-19, with 36 testing positive, 40 negative, and 32 still awaiting results.
