Third Wright State provost candidate comes from Appalachian State

The next candidate for the Wright State University provost job will visit campus next week.

Susan Edwards has served as vice provost at Appalachian State University since 2015. She will be on campus Monday and Tuesday and will participate in two open forums while there.

Edwards first started at Appalachian State in 2007 and held a number of professor roles and also served as the chairwoman of the university’s department of biology from 2012 to 2015, according to Wright State. She previously worked at Georgia Southern University and Cook University in Cairns, Australia.

Edwards is the third of four provost candidates WSU has invited to campus. The second candidate invited to campus withdrew his name for consideration at last minute.

The first candidate, Kenneth Petersen, serves as a dean at Boise State University and visited Wright State earlier this week. Outgoing provost Tom Sudkamp announced in December that he planned to step down from the school’s top academic job in June.

Wright State has spent at least $80,000 to find Sudkamp’s replacement. The university hired the private search firm Greenwood Asher, which allows them to keep the names of candidates private until a day or two before they visit campus.
