Tip leads to indictment of Middletown man on child pornography charges

A Middletown man has been indicted by a Warren County grand jury on multiple child pornography charges.

Aaron Boyer, 38, of Village Drive, was indicted on 12 counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said the tip was from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which initially forwarded the information to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and West Chester Twp. before it was determined Boyer had moved to Warren County.

“It was a goose chase to track him down,” Fornshell said.

Fornshell said law enforcement obtained access to Boyer’s cell phone and computer and during that examination of those electronic devices, investigators allegedly found about 100 explicit images of children.

Fornshell said the alleged images included children ages 3-14.

“Our best estimate was that most of them were eight to 10 years of age,” Fornshell said.

He said the number of referrals from the national center have decreased over the past few years.

“A lot of these people have gone further underground and are sharing on Snapchat, which makes it harder to track,” Fornshell said.

Boyer has not yet been arrested and is not yet in custody. An arraignment has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 22 in Warren County Common Pleas Court. He is facing up to one year in prison on each count, Fornshell said.
