Tire blow-out causes I-75 rollover crash in Miami County

A family of five moving from Michigan to the south had a rear tire blow out, which led to a rollover crash on southbound Interstate 75 that sent four to the hospital, including two young children.

The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck was not hurt and none of the four others taken to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy suffered serious injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post.

The crash was reported shortly before 4 p.m. near the 78 mile marker.

“No citations were issued,” said Trooper Jordan Monnin. “It was a tire failure that caused the crash.”

Monnin said the pickup was traveling in the left lane when the tire blew out. This caused the pickup to go off the right side of the interstate and roll one time. The truck, he said, was fully loaded with the family’s belongings.
