Bob Evans Restaurants has suspended its partnership with Urban Meyer.
The company removed a page from it its website that promoted a partnership with Ohio State University’s suspended head football coach only days after announcing the pairing.
Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday over an investigation into his potential knowledge of repeated domestic violence allegations against former assistant coach Zach Smith, stemming as far back as 2009. Smith was fired on July 23 after he violated a civil protection order filed by his former wife Courtney Smith.
“At Bob Evans Restaurants, we believe strongly in the family first values upon which the company was founded,” a statement on Twitter said. “We are suspending the current partnership with Urban Meyer and removing all related content pending the results of the official Ohio State University investigation.”
Meyer originally announced the partnership on his Twitter Monday linking to bobevans.com/coach, a page that returns an error message now. The proceeds from the endorsement are supposed to go to the Urban Meyer Family Foundation to support several charitable organizations, the Tweet said.
“Introducing our new Head Breakfast Coach: Urban Meyer! Get ready for a winning breakfast season!” Bob Evans Farms Twitter account says.
