Video: Water balloon fight gives seniors a year-end treat

The sounds of spring were finally audible and dry on Thursday. There were birds chirping, lawnmowers running, and, if you happened to be at Thomas Cloud Park, about 60 Wayne High School upperclassmen having a water balloon fight.

Several pickup trucks filled with buckets of water balloons and many more cars with the same rolled into the park at about 1 p.m. to organize the onslaught of water balloon barrages, silly string and shaving cream that started with these ground rules: Don’t steal water balloons from others, and no face shots.

Senior Cody Kern summed it up this way: “We’re trying to get everybody together a few more times before everybody leaves and summer comes. Just let everyone have a good time and throw water balloons. This is something you can’t get into trouble for. We’re not trying to do anything bad, you know, we’re just trying to have fun. That’s just what we’re trying to do here today.”

A melee ensued, and after about 15 minutes, wet and menthol-reeking participants gathered for a group photo to commemorate a fun gathering of friends who will soon be going their own directions after graduation.
