Lower speed limits, truck route changes approved in Austin Landing area

UPDATE @1:35 p.m. (Nov. 21):

Lower speed limits are going into effect for roads in Austin Landing and others west of the Interstate 75 interchange at Austin Boulevard.

Restrictions on commercial truck access on three roads are also part of the passage of Miamisburg City Council’s legislation, which takes effect immediately.

The changes mean that the speed limit on most roads in Austin Landing are changing to 25 miles per hour, according to the legislation approved Tuesday night.

The limit is now 35 mph on portions of Shephard, Medlar and Crain’s Run roads, the three roads where truck access will be restricted.

A plan to increase safety on several area roads – including many in Austin Landing - is set to be considered tonight.

Miamisburg City Council is scheduled to discuss a plan to lower speed limits and restrict large truck access. The changes were requested by Miami Twp. through the Austin Center Joint Economic Development District agreement.

The proposal calls for lowering the speed limit on the following roads:

-Shephard Road, from Dayton-Cincinnati Pike to Miamisburg-Springboro Road, from 40 miles per hour to 35 mph;

-Medlar Road, from Crain's Run Road to Miamisburg-Springboro, from 45 to 35 mph;

-Crain's Run, from Dayton-Cincinnati to Wood Road, from 45 to 35 mph;

-Most streets in Austin Landing, from 45 to 25 mph.

The legislation also calls for “no thru truck zones” on Crain’s Run, Medlar and Shephard roads.

Miamisburg council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in council chamber of the Miamisburg Civic Center, 10 N. First St.
