WATCH: Crews in Mason use a unique way to clear a flooded road

Motorists who use a Mason road found high water this morning following last night’s rain.

The area near the 7600 block of Innovation Way, between Western Row and Socialville-Foster roads, was flooded as catch-basins were clogged from dirt, straw and other debris from the ongoing road construction project, according Assistant City Engineer Steve Hartke. He was not sure how much rain fell overnight but said the flooding was at the lowest point of the road.

One car was in the high water area as Mason public works crews used heavy equipment to push water into another sewer opening in the street.

The road project is part of the overall road improvements for the Interstate 71/Western Row Road interchange project, which includes the widening of Innovation Way to two lanes each direction as well as exit and entrance ramps to southbound Interstate 71.

The project is one of several that have been in the works for the past few years that also included the extension of Innovation Way between Duke Boulevard and Socialville-Foster Road; the widening of the Socialville-Foster Road bridge; roundabouts on Duke Boulevard and Socialville-Foster Road; the relocation of a section of Columbia Road; improvements on Kings Island Drive; and the completion later this year of entrance ramps to northbound Interstate 71 from Western Row Road.
