Woman calls Middletown police after man fires shotgun multiple times in backyard

A Middletown man who threatened suicide was charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits and weapons under disability and was transported to Atrium Medical Center for mental evaluation.

Middletown police said the man had prior convictions of domestic violence so he wasn’t allowed to possess a firearm, according to the report.

Police responded Tuesday night to a residence in the 3100 block of Brent Drive after shots were reported fired in the area.

A woman told police that a man went into a closet and grabbed a shotgun she didn’t know he owned. He then went into the backyard and shot the gun an unknown number of times.

A woman told police she didn’t know whether the man killed himself. Then he walked back into the residence and placed the gun under the couch, the report said.

A 9-year-old boy also told police he heard the man threatening suicide.

A woman said the man didn’t threaten her or her son but his behavior was “getting worse,” the report said.

This news agency isn’t naming the man.
