Alter’s Simmons to start pro basketball career in Europe

Guard appeared in 33 games last season for Michigan

Alter High School graduate Jaaron Simmons will start his professional basketball career in Switzerland.

Simmons, a 6-foot-1 guard, will play for Union Neuchâtel, according to an announcement Monday by Keucheyan Sports Management. Union Neuchâtel plays in the top division of Swiss basketball. Neuchâtel is located in northwest Switzerland.

Simmons’ college career ended in March. He averaged 1.5 points in 33 games for the Michigan Wolverines and scored nine points in six NCAA tournament games. Michigan lost to Villanova in the NCAA championship game.

Simmons scored 1,149 points a career that also included one season at Houston and two at Ohio.
