Dragons fall to Whitecaps in extra innings

Joey Pankake singled home Mike Gerber in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday as the West Michigan Whitecaps scored a 4-3 win over the Dayton Dragons.

The Whitecaps (23-22) took three-of-four in the series with the Dragons (23-22).

West Michigan scored two runs in the eight to force extra innings.

Luis Gonzalez went 4-for-5 to pace Dayton, which fell to three games out of first in the Midwest League Eastern Division first-half standings.

The Dragons open a three-game home series against South Bend on Tuesday night.
