The Bengals won’t start cracking pads for a couple days, but when training camp opens this afternoon the process of trimming the roster from 90 players to 53 will begin in earnest and competition will officially be on.
What position battles interest you the most?
From which players are you hoping to see the greatest improvement?
SB Nation writer Kyle Phelps has pegged linebacker Nick Vigil, defensive tackle Andrew Billings and rookie running back Joe Mixon as three Bengals who the team really, really needs to step up.
Vigil played sparingly last season as rookie and is shooting for the spot vacated by Karlos Dansby, who signed as a free agent with the Cardinals. Billings missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury. Mixon was drafted in the second round out of Oklahoma.
Are these the right three players to focus on when camp begins at 3 p.m. on the fields west of Paul Brown Stadium?
It sure seems like some pleasant surprises need to be found on the offensive line.
