Every MLB team will open the season on the same day in 2018, but the first pitch still won’t be thrown in Cincinnati.
According to a press release from ESPN, the Cubs and Marlins will play at 12:30 p.m. on opening day while the Reds list the start time of their home game against the Washington Nationals as 4:10 that afternoon.
The first game being held in Cincinnati was a tradition for many years that ended when ESPN began telecasting a Sunday night game ahead of the traditional Monday openers across the league.
However, changes to the labor deal between MLB and the players association mean beginning next year every team will play its first game March 29, a Thursday.
According to the Reds, the season has started on a Thursday 11 times before, including 2011.
The last time every team opened the season on the same date was 1968.
