Charles Cooke will miss second straight game for Dayton Flyers

Senior guard won’t play Friday vs. Rhode Island

Dayton Flyers senior Charles Cooke will not play Friday against Rhode Island at UD Arena, coach Archie Miller told WHIO’s Larry Hansgen before the game.

Cooke missed the VMI game Dec. 23 with a wrist injury and then suffered a back injury Dec. 30 against La Salle. He didn’t play Tuesday in a 90-74 victory at St. Bonaventure.

Dayton has had its best two 3-point shooting performances of the season without Cooke. It made 15 of 27 3-pointers against VMI and 14 of 23 against St. Bonaventure. It’s the first time since the 1993-94 season Dayton has made 14 or more 3-pointers in a game twice in a season.

Injuries have hurt the Flyers at times, but often they overcome them.

“We’ve been able to do a lot this year without a lot of people,” Miller said Tuesday. “That’s the one thing that goes unnoticed with us. He’s not the only one over there sitting on the bench. He hasn’t been the only over there sitting on the bench all season. The guys just show up. There’s a toughness about a couple of these guys that have been there through the years. They have a lot of pride in what we do.”
