Colin Kaepernick named one of Time’s most influential people

Time magazine has included Colin Kaepernick in its list of most influential individuals of 2017.

Kaepernick made national headlines last year when he refused to stand for the national anthem prior to 49ers games.

Although nobody noticed what he was doing at first and neither his choice of symbols nor his initial explanation made much sense, Kaepernick’s action became a national story.

Many athletes followed suit with demonstrations of their own, so there is no doubt he influenced the national discourse.

However, Kaepernick’s credibility was undermined by his choice to wear socks depicting cops as pigs (not to mention a Fidel Castro shirt) and the revelation he didn’t vote in the election last November not because he didn’t care for the candidates but because he doesn’t believe voting will fix the problems he perceives with the country.
