Former Dayton Flyers forward Dyshawn Pierre announced Sunday night he will play for the Indiana Pacers in the Orlando Summer League.
Pierre, a 6-foot-6 forward from Whitby, Ont., worked out for the Pacers and a number of other teams in the weeks leading up to the draft but was not selected Thursday. The summer league at Amway Arena in Orlando starts Saturday and lasts until July 8. Each team plays five games. There are 10 teams.
This is the second straight year a Flyer has played in the Orlando Pro Summer League. Jordan Sibert played for the Orlando Magic last season and played the 2015-16 season with Orlando’s D-League team in Erie, Pa. He averaged 13.1 points in 44 games.
Pierre finished his UD career in March with 1,423 points, ranking 24th in school history, and 838 rebounds, ranking 12th. He shot 38.4 percent from 3-point range, ranking 10th.
