Hoover leads Flyer women past VCU

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five with a 75-56 win at VCU Saturday in Richmond, Va.

Senior Andrea Hoover led all scorers with 24 points and junior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova recorded a 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Also for the Flyers, senior Ally Malott scored 18 points grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and swatted two shots. Hoover narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds and junior Amber Deane chipped in nine points, all in the second half.

Dayton (14-4, 5-1 A-10) pushed its second-half lead to double-digits after a Hoover layup gave the Flyers a 44-33. VCU (13-7, 4-3 A-10) would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

The Flyers return to action (and Richmond) on Wednesday to play the Richmond Spiders at noon.

Wright State 82, Cleveland State 65: Senior guard Tay'ler Mingo stuffed the stat sheet with 31 points, 10 assists, six steals and five rebounds as the Raiders won at the Nutter Center before 566 fans. She also made all 13 of her free-throw attempts.

Riche van Der Keijl added 19 points and eight rebounds and Courtney Boyd chipped in 12 points.

The Raiders, who scored 28 points off CSU’s 19 turnovers, improved to 15-5, 4-2 in the Horizon League. They play again Thursday at Oakland (Mich.).
