Ohio State routs Michigan, 42-13

Running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 214 yards and quarterback J.T. Barrett added 139 more as Ohio State beat rival Michigan, 42-13, on Saturday afternoon for the fourth straight time.

Barrett’s 17-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter, giving OSU a 42-13 lead, sent many Michigan fans for the exits.

Ohio State continued its domination over Michigan with its 11th win in the last 12 games. It also spoiled the debut of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, who became the third Michigan coach to lose his debut against the Buckeyes.

Ohio State struck quickly in the second half on Barrett’s perfectly placed 25-yard touchdown pass to Middletown’s Jalin Marshall. Barrett lofted the pass over the head of Michigan defender Jeremy Clark, who had excellent coverage on Marshall for the 21-10 lead.

First-half touchdown runs by Barrett and Elliott gave Ohio State a 14-10 halftime lead.

Barrett’s seven-yard touchdown run with 1:05 left in the first quarter gave the Buckeyes a 7-0 lead. The drive was highlighted by Elliott’s 66-yard sprint along the Ohio State sideline, the longest rush allowed by the Wolverines this season.

After a 25-yard field goal pulled Michigan to 7-3, Elliott made it 14-3 with a five-yard TD run with 5:01 left before the half. Elliott, who had his streak of 100-yard rushing games snapped at 15 last week, had 10 carries for 99 yards

Ohio State’s first two scoring drives covered 94 and 75 yards. Last week, OSU’s offense struggled to 132 yards total in a 17-14 loss to Michigan State.

Michigan’s TD came with one minute before halftime on Jake Rudock’s five-yard pass to Jehu Chesson.
