2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where Kentucky is ranked (Week 5)

Kentucky continued its steady rise in the SEC Country Power Poll with a 24-20 win against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

The Wildcats weren’t overall impressive in the close victory against the Mid-American Conference opponent, but coach Mark Stoops’ squad keeps winning. Kentucky is 4-1 with its only loss coming by 1 point to Florida in Week 4.

Kentucky checked in at No. 6 in the latest edition of the SEC Country Power Poll. That’s up one spot from last week when the Wildcats were ranked No. 7. The SEC Country Power Poll consists of 27 voters. UK was ranked as high as No. 4 and as low as No. 12.

Kentucky opened the season ranked 10th in the poll. And while Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Florida are the clear top-4 teams in the poll, the rest of the SEC is jumbled. The Crimson Tide received all 27 first-place votes.

Kentucky has a great chance to notch its second conference victory when it faces Missouri at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Kroger Field.

Missouri checks in at the bottom of the rankings: No. 14. The Tigers (1-3) were off on Saturday. Their only win came against FCS Missouri State and their losses to South Carolina, Purdue and Auburn all came in blowout fashion. Kentucky won at Missouri 35-21 last season.

But the Wildcats have plenty to clean up this week. Kentucky’s offense struggled to move the ball against Eastern Michigan, and the Cats could’ve easily been upset were it not for a stellar defensive performance.

“We found ways to win the football game when we did not play our very best,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said after the game. “That’s what I appreciate about them. They need to get some rest tomorrow , and we need to come back in  Monday focused, energized and ready to play. There’s no excuse for not playing our best at home.”
