2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where LSU is ranked (Week 5)

Look out, below.

LSU football is in a free-fall, and that tumble was accurately reflected in this week’s SEC Country Power Poll. The Tigers (3-2) dropped all the way from sixth to 10th in the league power poll following a miserable 24-21 loss to Troy.

The defeat was the first for LSU in Tiger Stadium against a nonconference opponent since falling to UAB in 2000, a streak of 49 straight wins.

It wasn’t as if the Trojans needed a miracle play to squeak away with the win, either. Troy was up 24-7 in the fourth quarter before two late touchdowns made things look prettier on the scoreboard than they did on the field of play.

The more telling stats? Troy outrushed LSU 206-162. Perhaps more troubling was the fact that 57 of LSU’s rushing yards came from quarterback Danny Etling on scrambles when his pocket collapsed.

And on third down it was no contest. LSU was 0 for 8 on third-down conversions while Troy went 10 for 18.

The good news for LSU? Two of the four teams ranked below the Tigers in the SEC Country Power Poll are still ahead on the schedule (Ole Miss and Tennessee).

The bad news? LSU still needs to win three more games for bowl eligibility.

The SEC Country Power Poll is voted on by 27 media members who cover the league. Check back here every  Sunday  for the latest installment of the SEC Country Power Poll.
